Helpful Tool not only for Sports Fans

Hey there, I have recently posted about a great new tool called sportsnipe. The post is called killa application: sportsnipe so if you want to learn about the application check out that post. Not only do I believe that this is a great tool for sports fans but I also think that it is a very useful and helpful site for anyone who wants to learn anything about any sport. Regardless of any topic which you are interested in searching the vast web for, this website is great. My topic of interest is female athletes and just by having access to this website I can now find a large amount of helpful information. This tool allows you to do a mass search to many different search engines regarding specific topics such as female athletes. When doing a search not only will information come up from different websites such as google, yahoo, and espn but also personal and professional blogs. Without a doubt it cuts down the search time and it allows you to view a very large amount of information as one time rather than having to visit many different website and having to search the same topic over and over again.
The search tool which the website has by far is incredibly helpful when doing any type of sports research it presents each user with information from a great deal of websites.

This tool is very versatile, you could be searching a topic such as ACL tears in female athletes and you would then find information from many different websites regarding ACL tears in female athletes. Then you can get users involved by commenting and posting questions regarding certain articles or pieces of news. This is an amazing feature and it is incredibly helpful because now instead of just hearing from the professionals you can see what the regular Joe has to say.

Yah sure you can go review scholarly journals and recent research regarding such topics as ACL tears in female athletes, but applications like this are important because it allows you to get a closer looks at current events as well as get the opinions of other users who maybe have experienced such problems as ACL tears. Sportsnipe allows those doing research regarding sport related issues to get a more balanced and well rounded array of information.

No doubt that this website was designed with sports fans in mind but beyond that it is also a very helpful tool for research which is related to sports. Sportsnipe is definitely worth checking out.

Killa Application: sportsnipe

Hey there sports fan!!! I’ve been doing some searching on the web and I found this really great application for sports fans of any kind. This application is called SportSnipe and it has got some really great features. This application is awesome and it is completely free!!! You do not have to sign up to be a user unless so desired, even though I recommend becoming a user because there is more flexibility with the site when you sign up. This application is made for sports fans no doubt about it. When looking at the website you can see the large array of information presented before you. You can get you daily sports news from just about every large website, such as google and yahoo, as well as from top sports website and also popular sports blogs. Not only is there an incredible amount of sports news before you but also the website has the most popular sports videos and highlights available for all to see. This application is definitely comparable to the sports page of a newspaper but if I may say so…it is like ten times better. I mean what sports page gives you daily updates of the most popular sports news??? So you may be thinking great daily updates, not really all that big of a deal; but this application allows you to looks at sports news which is most desirable to you. For example, let’s say you love field hockey and you’re just not interested in sports news regarding other sports, well the solution is simple and sportsnipe wants to accommodate its user. So all you have to do is select field hockey from the choices of sports at the top of the page and then it’s a page completely filled with the lasted news regarding anything that has to do with field hockey. This app. Is also great because if you decide to sign up and become a user it allows you to customize a sports news page in which you can receive news and video updates from your desired sources.

This website has so many features which are useful and awesome. One of the best features is that it allows users to send daily news update to their cell phones, so it allows sports fans to receive the latest news even when they are not sitting at a computer. Sportsnipe also lets readers and users alike see and view the most popular sports news stories for the day, but highlighting them.

Connectivity is a big part of this application, users can comment on any story which they read and voice their opinion regarding any piece of sports news. This comment feature can be used to connect different people from around the world by allowing them to have discussion over their favorite sports news for the day. This app is bringing a connection to sports fans from around the world. I believe in someway that this is a model for the sports page of the future. To all you sports fans out there it is definitely worth checking out!!!

Tour of My Flake

A Tour of My Flake

This page cast is a collection of blogs, searches, websites all relating to different topics and issues regarding female athletes. My page flake provides a variety of resources which would be helpful for anyone simply interested about women in sports. I have organized my page cast in a way that I think would be best for not only myself to retrieve information easily but as well as others curious about my topic. My page cast is divided into three columns and within my columns I have used various subheadings to make the sources more accessible and organized. I am going to take you through each column and describe my various subheadings.

Column one (farthest left column on the page):

In Column one, I have posted different information which I have searched for and bookmarked myself. All of the subheadings in this column are in blue.

My fist subheading is My Bookmarks, these are different websites and blogs which I felt provided helpful information regarding women in sports.

Following My Bookmarks is the subheading My Soul Mate, in which I linked a post I had previously written on my blog Female Athletes: What’s The Deal? In this post I just describe the relevance of networking with another individual and using them as tool for information. Right below that I posted a few of Soccercarly84’s relevant bookmarks.

Column two (located directly in the middle):

In Column two, I have reserved this space solely for my RSS feeds. The subheading in this column is in pink.

My RSS feeds: I have provided ten different RSS feeds on this page flake all of which are relating to female athletes. All these blogs are very different; some of these feeds focus on all types of female athletes and different accomplishments others than I have selected target specific type of female athletes, for example the blog all about the United States women’s soccer team which highlight accomplishments and gives constant updates about their games and players. There are many headlines posted on the women’s national team blog which catch my eye, Now that’s going Green, is the current headline for this blog and I have noticed that many of the titles are catchy and have a way as grabbing the attention of anyone takes a glance. Some of the blogs which I have selected are more specific and I find that the more specific the more helpful the blog tends to be. One blog in particular is Female Athletes Dis-Ease, this blog discusses the female athlete triad and provides a great deal of useful information regarding certain health issues which are common among women in sports. The Female Athletes Dis-Ease blog is one that I have read through and personally written about in one of my own blog postings. All the RSS feeds which I have added relate to my topic of female athletes, these blogs provide a well rounded look at different types of female athletes, different health issues which female athletes face, as well as accomplishments among different women in sports.

Column three (located farthest right on the page):

In Column three, I have the subheading my active new searches. Among my active news search includes both a universal news search and a universal blog search. The subheading in this column is purple. In both searches I chose to use the same search terms, the two terms that I chose to use are female and athletes. The reason that I chose these terms—aside from the obvious fact that my blog is about female athletes—is because I found that after a great deal of searching using those two terms provided me with the most accurate and useful information. Also using the terms female and athletes helped me in finding the largest quantity of information regarding my topic. I tried using other search terms such and women in sports but both the quality and quantity of information was not as great.

Well I hope you have enjoyed your tour of my flake and hope the information here is both relevant and useful.

My Soul Mate...

My Soul Mate…

After much searching I finally found the one, my social book marking soul mate. My soul mate goes by the username soccercarly83. She does not have many websites bookmarked but I found what she has bookmarked to be very relevant to my topic and area of interest. To give you an exact number of how many websites she has bookmarked is no problem, for it is a mere six. From her sites that she has bookmarked I can guess that she is interested in sports; specifically gender differences among male and female athletes, such as differences in coverage between men and women.

Because her bookmarking is rather limited, she also does not provide many tags. However, I did find her tags to quite helpful and relevant to my searching. Soccercarly84’s most commons tags were women and sport for which she both had four. Considering that my topic is female athletes I felt the sites in which she had marked were similar to my search for information.

Selecting Soccercarly84 as my soul mate was a fairly easy decision. When looking for my soul mate I wanted to find another individual who was interested in solely female athletes. The search was rather difficult because often I would find people who were just interested in small portions of my topic along with a great deal of other things. When I came upon soccercarly84 I almost decided to overlook her bookmarks and tags and find someone because she had few sites bookmarked. However, when I looked closely at her tags I noticed that the majority of her websites that she bookmarked related to issues that females athletes commonly face. Her tags were undoubtedly useful in helping me recognize how useful her bookmarked sites could potentially be to me.
I found most of her bookmarked sites to be helpful and also some those helped me discover certain topics and issues which female athletes face that I had not touched upon myself. Two of the websites she bookmarked focus on media coverage within women’s sports an issue that I did not think to write about or look into until I looked at her bookmarks.

For me selecting Soccercarly84 as a soul mate was a simple decision, it really came down to quality over quantity.

Blogorama

Welcome:
Ever since I can remember I have been playing sports. If someone asked me to describe myself the first that comes to mind is that I am an athlete. I can identify most with being an athlete; it’s just what makes sense to me. Some people love school and others love to draw, but me I love to compete.
Sports are a great hobby and also an excellent way to stay in shape. But I honestly believe that sports are so much more than just a hobby that they are a way of life.

Sports are a great hobby and an excellent way to stay in shape. But are they not so much more than that? They are unique in that they are the one thing that we may all have in common. Rich, poor, ugly, beautiful, fat, skinny, or what have you; we all love to play and watch sports. The great thing about sports is that we can all play and there are so many opportunities whether it be in a recreational, college, or professional league. Sports have come a long way and have given great opportunities to many, especially to women. The role of the female athlete is quite different from that of a male athlete. Being a female is complicated enough, then add all the trials, tribulations, and success, it is definitely no easy role.

The reason why I felt compelled to write about such topic as this was simply because I myself can relate a great deal to the complicated workings behind the female athlete. Also I believe that people often do not understand the great deal of effort that we girls put into being the best that we can be in a male dominated industry and that we do this for pure joy and love for the game. Because honestly unless we want to eat ramen noodles for the rest of our lives, we really can not make playing the sport we love into a career. That is not to say that this can never happen, but i believe that making it is really a one in a million kind of thing.
Frequent injuries, risk factors for eating disorders, hard grueling workouts, horrible tan lines (outside sports only...hopefully) etc.
It sounds so unappealing, so why do so many females choose to participate in sports (there has to be some reason, or maybe we really are all just crazy)? As hard as it may be at times, there is definitely something about competition that keeps us engaged. Also I would like to discuss the different benefits and experiences that can be gained for females who participate in sports.

The truth is that we are not physically equal to men. The majority of men are faster, stronger, and more skilled than us woman, we can’t help it that is just the way God made us. We take competition just as serious and we are athletes just as they are. In the Sports Media Watch blog the author describes a recent Nike commercial:
Consider the Nike ad campaign. The ads feature several star female athletes and
a megaphone. The athletes, including the aforementioned Taurasi and Picabo
Street, talk about how they would like to be viewed as athletes, without the
'female' qualifier. The fact that there even needs to be an ad campaign where
these athletes plead for the same respect given to their male counterparts is
telling.

It is really sad that female athletes have to proclaim their status as an athlete. If we compete, practice, and play then there should be no doubt as to whether females are considered athletes. But even when some may consider athletes it is rare that female athletes are respected as legitimate athletes regardless of their talent or achievements. According to the author of sports media watch women will never be taken seriously on the court, field, or in any athletic competition:

And no matter how well they play, no matter how exciting the games, the WNBA
will always be looked at as illegitimate -- for no other reason than the fact
that the players are women, and that obviously means they have no idea how to
play. One need only peruse sport-related message boards to see comments like this:
constantly
playing these WNBA dykes is truly uncalled for man.. and I am fking paying for
this sht??? they are all butt ugly and prison girls are probably hotter.... and
they cant play or jump worth sht man..... all of this talk about below the rim
play that they do, well yeah there has to be compensation, because they cant
jump, but who gives a sht man -- they cant play worth sht below the rim
also............

Sports are brutal and there is little long term promise of a career for 99% of us women who play. That is what separates us from our male counterpart, some might say that we have little to play for, but truthfully what we play for in priceless. There certainly exist no equality among male and female athletes but we can only hope that with time we can bridge the gap.

Profile of a Fellow Blogger:
For my second post I am going to profile a blog which I find similar to my own. While searching through different blogs I found it rather difficult to find another blogger who wrote about the same things as myself. I did not think it would be such a challenge to find a blog about female athletes but to my surprise it was like the good ol’ needle in the hay stack.
There was one blog which touched upon some things which I hope to mention in a future post. The blog is titled Female Athletes Dis-Ease and it is written by Sara Jane. SarraJane who is a student, and her ultimate dream is to become a Sports Massages therapist and work the New York Yankees. She does not post often, in fact she has not posted in over a year, and to top that off all of her seven posts were in the month of April. Although her sight is not the most popular I found her postings rather interesting I think health issues of female athletes are often under the radar and I believe that many are unaware of just how common eating disorders are among female athletes. She is really effect in making the connecction between eating disorders and female athletes, in her blog Eating Disorder http://sarrajane-dis-ease.blogspot.com/2007/04/first-factor-of-female-triad-is-having.html

I think that this blog relates fairly well to my work in that I am here to talk about the life of a female athlete which includes health issues that we may face. I think that this is a major problem among female athletes and I think that it is a common misconception to think that female athletes do not really have eating disorders. I think that this is academic she writes this blog for a course that she is taking in neurophysiology. I think the audience for thing blog is individuals who are female athletes, those who may know females athletes, and those who are just curious for whatever reason. She touches on a lot of good points and issues relating to the female athlete triad such as letting the reader know things such as:
Most girls have concerns about the size and shape of their bodies, but girls who
develop female athlete triad have certain risk factors that set them apart.
Being a highly competitive athlete and participating in a sport that requires
you to train extra hard is a risk factor.
I want to talk about the lives of female athletes and just really examine the life of the female athletes: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I really want to touch upon it all and I think touching upon issues such as the female triad is incredibly important and therefore I feel that a blog such as this can undoubtedly be useful for information regarding certain health issues that women who play sports face. In this blog the author also touches on why these girls may fall victim to the female athlete triad:
Most girls with female athlete triad try to lose weight primarily to improve
their athletic performance. The disordered eating that accompanies female
athlete triad can range from avoiding certain types of food the athlete thinks
are "bad" (such as foods containing fat) to serious eating disorders like
anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. Body image has become an obsession in
society.
My cite will differ a great deal from SarraJanes. Female Athlete disease, in that I do not wish to only touch upon diseases or health issues that female athletes face. In this blog she most describes this problem as a solution to enhance athletic performance but I also think that female athletes desire to be thin in order to make themselves more attractive. As sad as this may be, I think that attractiveness and success of a female athlete go hand in hand. When was the last time you saw the top women’s heavy weight lifter in a Nike commercial?

On Voice...
I decided to examine the voice of a fellow blogger, the name of her blog Happiness Bus. I really enjoyed reading her blog, while reading you truly get feel for who she is through her words. The girl obviously has some talent and knows how to use her words; I mean she is only a sports info director at the University of Southern Cal.

Her blog is easy to read but by no means does it lack substance. Her blog is one that I would honestly not dread reading again. In her blog, Fall Back... she likes to keep the reader engaged by asking questions, not really anything that requires thought by the reading but I do think that questions do particularly well as grabbing attention.

In keeping with the procrastination central that I seem to have built this blog into, let’s take another walk down memory lane, shall we??

She turns this into a question by including the phrase "shall we", not only does the question grab attention but it allows the reader to feel included into the story the she is about to tell, as if she is directing the her words toward the reader. This is important because it makes the reader give a greater attention to what she has to say.

I feel that the most important thing when writing is being able to grab the readers attention and keep. Her use of (…)
