Tour of My Flake

A Tour of My Flake

This page cast is a collection of blogs, searches, websites all relating to different topics and issues regarding female athletes. My page flake provides a variety of resources which would be helpful for anyone simply interested about women in sports. I have organized my page cast in a way that I think would be best for not only myself to retrieve information easily but as well as others curious about my topic. My page cast is divided into three columns and within my columns I have used various subheadings to make the sources more accessible and organized. I am going to take you through each column and describe my various subheadings.

Column one (farthest left column on the page):

In Column one, I have posted different information which I have searched for and bookmarked myself. All of the subheadings in this column are in blue.

My fist subheading is My Bookmarks, these are different websites and blogs which I felt provided helpful information regarding women in sports.

Following My Bookmarks is the subheading My Soul Mate, in which I linked a post I had previously written on my blog Female Athletes: What’s The Deal? In this post I just describe the relevance of networking with another individual and using them as tool for information. Right below that I posted a few of Soccercarly84’s relevant bookmarks.

Column two (located directly in the middle):

In Column two, I have reserved this space solely for my RSS feeds. The subheading in this column is in pink.

My RSS feeds: I have provided ten different RSS feeds on this page flake all of which are relating to female athletes. All these blogs are very different; some of these feeds focus on all types of female athletes and different accomplishments others than I have selected target specific type of female athletes, for example the blog all about the United States women’s soccer team which highlight accomplishments and gives constant updates about their games and players. There are many headlines posted on the women’s national team blog which catch my eye, Now that’s going Green, is the current headline for this blog and I have noticed that many of the titles are catchy and have a way as grabbing the attention of anyone takes a glance. Some of the blogs which I have selected are more specific and I find that the more specific the more helpful the blog tends to be. One blog in particular is Female Athletes Dis-Ease, this blog discusses the female athlete triad and provides a great deal of useful information regarding certain health issues which are common among women in sports. The Female Athletes Dis-Ease blog is one that I have read through and personally written about in one of my own blog postings. All the RSS feeds which I have added relate to my topic of female athletes, these blogs provide a well rounded look at different types of female athletes, different health issues which female athletes face, as well as accomplishments among different women in sports.

Column three (located farthest right on the page):

In Column three, I have the subheading my active new searches. Among my active news search includes both a universal news search and a universal blog search. The subheading in this column is purple. In both searches I chose to use the same search terms, the two terms that I chose to use are female and athletes. The reason that I chose these terms—aside from the obvious fact that my blog is about female athletes—is because I found that after a great deal of searching using those two terms provided me with the most accurate and useful information. Also using the terms female and athletes helped me in finding the largest quantity of information regarding my topic. I tried using other search terms such and women in sports but both the quality and quantity of information was not as great.

Well I hope you have enjoyed your tour of my flake and hope the information here is both relevant and useful.

My Soul Mate...

My Soul Mate…

After much searching I finally found the one, my social book marking soul mate. My soul mate goes by the username soccercarly83. She does not have many websites bookmarked but I found what she has bookmarked to be very relevant to my topic and area of interest. To give you an exact number of how many websites she has bookmarked is no problem, for it is a mere six. From her sites that she has bookmarked I can guess that she is interested in sports; specifically gender differences among male and female athletes, such as differences in coverage between men and women.

Because her bookmarking is rather limited, she also does not provide many tags. However, I did find her tags to quite helpful and relevant to my searching. Soccercarly84’s most commons tags were women and sport for which she both had four. Considering that my topic is female athletes I felt the sites in which she had marked were similar to my search for information.

Selecting Soccercarly84 as my soul mate was a fairly easy decision. When looking for my soul mate I wanted to find another individual who was interested in solely female athletes. The search was rather difficult because often I would find people who were just interested in small portions of my topic along with a great deal of other things. When I came upon soccercarly84 I almost decided to overlook her bookmarks and tags and find someone because she had few sites bookmarked. However, when I looked closely at her tags I noticed that the majority of her websites that she bookmarked related to issues that females athletes commonly face. Her tags were undoubtedly useful in helping me recognize how useful her bookmarked sites could potentially be to me.
I found most of her bookmarked sites to be helpful and also some those helped me discover certain topics and issues which female athletes face that I had not touched upon myself. Two of the websites she bookmarked focus on media coverage within women’s sports an issue that I did not think to write about or look into until I looked at her bookmarks.

For me selecting Soccercarly84 as a soul mate was a simple decision, it really came down to quality over quantity.
